Buy Now, Pay Later

I was a lead content designer for PayPal's Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) product suite, including the

Pay in 4 and Pay Monthly products

  • Led content design for Pay in 4 expansion into Italy, Spain, and Germany
    • Collaborated with localization and legal to meet compliance and tone requirements per region
    • Tailored landing pages, emails, and value propositions for each region
  • Supported core BNPL flows, acquisition, and the post-purchase customer hub
  • Across all these efforts, the challenge was balancing legal/regulatory constraints with clarity and conversion

Pay Later Customer Experience and Hub

    My Role

    • Led content strategy for landing pages and acquisition flows
    • Optimized value props and layout using research and A/B testing
    • Wrote checkout microcopy to promote Pay Later options in-context
    • Managed microcopy across entry points like checkout banners and declined message pivots
    • Owned updates to the Pay Later customer hub and worked to clarify navigation and plan visibility
    • Crafted approval messaging, disclaimers, and payment disclosures with legal

    Outcome

    • Increased product clarity and adoption across Pay Later experiences
    • Supported launches in key EU markets with compliant, regionally tailored content
    • Helped drive global adoption and retention across new and existing markets

    "Pay Later 2 Go"

    The Problem

PayPal’s Pay Later products were traditionally only available to integrated merchants. We needed a way to expand the product so it could be used anywhere.

    My Role

    • Designed the end-to-end experience for a one-time-use virtual card to simulate an integrated Pay in 4 purchase
    • Led naming explorations and partnered closely with research to test for terms
    • Collaborated with design, research, and product to ensure users understood the limits and benefits of the card
    • Heavily iterated and tested step-by-step usage instructions and success screen messaging
    • Balanced high-level stakeholder feedback with user needs, even in a tightly scoped, desktop-only UI via the Honey browser plugin

    Honey Extension Amazon Experience

    Outcome

The virtual card launch successfully unlocked Pay in 4 for non-integrated merchants, starting with Amazon. This introduced a new payment option that customers understood and trusted. Content testing helped reduce confusion around terminology and repayment expectations.
